Since making her home in the redwood forests of Big Sur in 1995, Sofanya has lived and worked in close relationship with the land, allowing its rhythms, textures, and quiet wisdom to inform both her life and her art. Her paintings are rich with layered color, movement, and symbolism, inviting viewers into spaces of reflection, presence, and emotional resonance. Central to her practice are her Essence Portraits, an intuitive art form that blends visual expression with guided insight, offering a deeply personal and transformative experience for those who receive them.
Sofanya is also the artist and owner of Jewel in the Forest, a glam-rustic retreat, gallery, and gathering space nestled among towering redwoods. Created as an extension of her creative philosophy, Jewel in the Forest is a place where beauty feels intentional, gatherings feel meaningful, and time slows just enough to be fully felt. The space hosts weddings, workshops, retreats, and creative experiences designed to foster connection, celebration, and authentic expression. In addition to her artistic and teaching work, Sofanya is a featured contributor in the collaborative book Expressive Arts: The Ultimate Creative Guide to Transforming Stress, sharing her perspective alongside artists and expressive arts practitioners from around the world. Dome Gallery & Studios
You are most welcome to visit my art gallery and studios where I display and work. My painting studio is in the Dome House upstairs and my clay and wood studio is my most “happy place”. I began my art journey when I was a young child. It has been the most healing and wonderul revealing of experiences and I learn so much with each piece.
Over the last few years, many guests have enjoyed immersing in the beauty and magic of nature and expressing freely, with painting and sculpture. We offer daylong workshops as well as 2-4 day retreats!
